Lesson 1: Trust Is a Daily Choice

I remember a season when I was consumed with worry about my daughter not working. Throughout high school and university, she had only ever held one job. As she approached graduation, I became anxious that no one would hire her. After all the time, effort, and money we had invested in her education, I didn’t want opportunities to pass her by simply because she lacked work experience.

So I pushed. I nagged her about applying for jobs. I argued with her. I even asked my husband to persuade her to start looking. In my mind, there was a clear sequence life was supposed to follow: you graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married, and so on.

That was the order I believed my children’s lives needed to follow. I thought I knew exactly how things should go.

But God had something different in mind.

One morning, while I was praying—again—for my daughter to find a job, I felt God gently but firmly rebuke me. He asked why I kept praying as though He had forgotten to secure a bright future for her. He reminded me of the promise He made on the day I dedicated my children to Him, that if I placed them in His hands and allowed them to be used for His purpose, He would take care of their future, and I would not need to worry.

Then He asked me a question that stopped me in my tracks: Why couldn’t I trust Him with her future instead of trying so hard to control it with my limited understanding?

I felt deeply convicted. God was calling me back to the very promise I had once trusted so wholeheartedly. He was asking me to truly trust Him, especially when it came to my children.

That realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

As I moved forward, I learned that trust isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a daily choice. It’s waking up each morning and reminding myself that God is in control, not only of my life, but of the lives of my children as well.

Trusting God doesn’t mean I have all the answers. It means I’m willing to let go of the need to have them and allow Jesus to take the reins.

What trust looks like for me now.

  • Releasing my grip on outcomes I can't control.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord."

    Isaiah 55 8-9

  • Choosing to believe God is working even when I can't see it.

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

    Hebrews 11:1
