Writing with purpose on a blank page

There's a moment every writer knows, staring at a blank page, cursor blinking, wondering if you have anything worth saying. For years, I faced that moment alone. But now in this new year, I'm taking a leap of faith, and I saw change when I invited Jesus to enter that space with me.
When I started writing, I treated it as a purely technical pursuit. My stories were technically competent but somehow hollow. They were like beautifully wrapped boxes with nothing inside. I was missing something essential: purpose.
I was building without the Master Architect. He gave me a reminder that "Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." — Psalm 127:1
I've always kept a journal, writing down my Bible study lessons, church sermons, and monthly updates of what's happening in my life. During a difficult season, I began journaling as prayer. Raw, unfiltered words poured out. I wasn't trying to impress anyone; I was simply being honest.
When I surrendered my writing to God, He began straightening my crooked creative path.
Three Ways Faith Transformed My Writing
1. Permission to Be Vulnerable - My weaknesses became cracks through which God's light could shine. God demonstrated that I don't need to portray a perfect image, as He will use my imperfections and experiences with readers in ways they have never had before. "
My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9
2. A Deeper Purpose - Writing became stewardship, not self-promotion. The stories I share aren't really mine; they are gifts meant to be shared, to encourage, to provoke thought, and to offer hope.
"Use whatever gift you have received to serve others." — 1 Peter 4:10
.
3. Trust in the Process - Writing requires an enormous amount of faith. You work in solitude, trusting that the hours spent will eventually matter to someone. I am learning to plant words like seeds, trusting God with the harvest.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest." — Galatians 6:9
.
Now, before I write, I pray:
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord." — Psalm 19:14
For me, faith is the anchor that grounds my writing when motivation fades and doubt creeps in. It reminds me that I'm not writing for applause but for an audience of One. This new year marks a fresh chapter for me, where Jesus leads, and I follow. Today, I am now writing with a purpose.
Whatever your journey looks like, I hope this post encourages you. If you are a writer, remember that God is always listening. Keep writing. Keep believing. Keep planting seeds.
