Lesson 7: My Life Has Purpose

There was a season when I had no idea what I was supposed to do with my life. I lost my job and felt completely untethered, uncertain of my future.

I kept waiting for some dramatic sign. A clear voice. An obvious door. A defining moment when everything would finally click into place.

But purpose didn't come all at once. It came in pieces.

For months, I prayed for wisdom and direction. One day, during my prayer time, God spoke to me and asked why I keep praying for the same thing over and over again, and why I never paused long enough to hear His answer.

 Because he already answered!

 Sometimes, we focus so intently on our request that we miss the response. Or we miss it because it doesn’t look the way we imagined. God reminded me to slow down and see what He had already placed before me, big or small.

That moment shifted everything. Purpose is faithfulness in small things.

Now I believe that purpose isn't one big thing, it's faithfulness in many small things. It's showing up where I am. Using what I have. Trusting that God can use my ordinary life for extraordinary good.

God has called me to write and share my journey; my losses and victories, especially the lessons learned along the way. He gave this word three years ago, and my heart clings to it to this very day:

“The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.” – Isaiah 50:4 

For me, writing is an integral part of that purpose. Every word I write is an act of faith, born from the belief that my story could offer encouragement to someone else on their own journey.

Now, as we bring this topic on the 7 Faith Lessons to a close, my sincere hope is that my experiences have encouraged you in some way. Faith is a deeply personal journey, and your path may be quite different from my own. Yet, life unfolds in seasons, and perhaps some of the stories I've shared will resonate with a season you're experiencing. Whatever your current season, may you find hope and peace in the unwavering knowledge that God loves and cares for you.

What purpose looks like for me now:

• Writing words that point others to hope. Share my story not because I have all the answers, but because I serve a God who does.

"Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those He redeemed from the hand of the foe." — Psalm 107:2

• Being present with the people in front of me. Sometimes, purpose is simply showing up for the ones God has placed in my life.

"Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

— 1 John 3:18

• Trusting that small acts of faithfulness lead to an eternal impact. I may not see the full picture now, but I trust that God is gathering every small ‘yes’ into something greater.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." — Colossians 3:23

Here's another verse that I find encouraging to stick with what God has assigned me to do:

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for reminding us that purpose is found in small, faithful steps. Help us slow down, listen for Your voice, and trust that You're working in our ordinary moments. Give us peace in whatever season we're in and courage to keep saying 'yes' to You. This we pray to you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
