Is the Sahara Desert tour worth it?
Many people who book through organized tours wonder if the Sahara desert excursion in Morocco is worth the extra dollar. My simple answer to it is yes! A thousand percent yes! Especially if it is your first time visiting the desert. Many other countries offer the same excursions, like Dubai and India and I am sure everyone has different experiences from mine.
I booked our Moroccan tour through Exoticca (not a paid promotion) and paid extra for the Sahara Desert excursion. The people in our group often discussed what the tents would look like, and if they had private bathrooms in their tents. So I created the video below to show people what it was like for us when we went. This has been an amazing experience for us and hope that some of you can get an idea before you decide to purchase.
Things to know before you go:
DO NOT BOOK through the tour company. Book your excursion with your guide when you get there as it is way cheaper than purchasing ahead of time.
WEAR PANTS and closed-toe shoes for the camel ride. The camels are tied in groups of 3 or 4 and they tend to walk alongside you while wiping their faces on the back of your seat. The camel behind me ended up rubbing his face on my leg. I'm glad I wore pants or that would have been gross! And closed shoes because the sand will get in between your toes.
BRING A SWEATER - the temperature drops at night and is way cooler than the daytime.
BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL. They do not provide alcoholic beverages at the campsite.
DON'T FORGET that you are not in your own home country. Manage your expectations before you go. This way, when you get there, you just get to live in the moment and not what you can post on your social media.
